A simple program that will work!

I've read plenty of other books about diabetes and most are pretty good. The thing I liked most about this book is that it gives you all the information you need in just a few pages. Short and sweet and right to the point. I probably went through the whole book in less than 30 minutes. I highly recommend this short but informative book to anyone who needs sound information about controlling and reversing diabetes by means of diet and exercise only.

The Worst Book I've Read On This Topic

I'm having trouble believing that all of the folks who gave this book 4 or 5 stars read the same book I read. The only credit I can give it is for brevity. I am appalled at the amateur approach taken on a topic that has an impact on peoples health. I have seen better, more insightful writing on a forth graders book report. I am bothered to know that there seem to be many people who don't know how to research health conditions on their own rather than rely on misinformation and half-assed attempts to speak intelligently on the topic of diabetes and insulin resistance. The statement in his book; "To avoid all similar situations, a person suffering from diabetes has to take Insulin. Fortunately or unfortunately this is the only way for them to spend a normal life." is absolutely untrue. Not all diabetics are insulin dependent and many have proven that diabetes and insulin resistance can be treated effectively with diet better than with insulin. Also, "It was in the year 1921 that a revolutionary drug was discovered and it was named Insulin." is ridiculous. Insulin is NOT a drug, it is naturally occurring hormone secreted by the pancreas. Better research is warranted if you're going to pass yourself off as an expert on any topic. Last, I did not find any information in this very short book that suggested any kind of a "cure" for insulin resistance. Totally disappointing!

Being in the medical field, I get easily confused on what to educate our patients about Insulin resistance. I don't know if I just didn't listen when our professor discussed it, or I'm just simply confused. This book helped me construct the right words of conducting health education to patients about Insulin resistance and its cure. This information will not just help me with patients, but it will also help me with the people that are Insulin resistant in our family. Together, let's fight the Insulin resistance!

Some great concepts, but perhaps pushing the boundaries a bit

Light bulb moment: Wheelwright's stress on the concept that the bulk of the tax code is there to provide incentives for doing one thing or another, and that you can be a lot wealthier by choosing to actively participate in ways the tax system rewards. I really hadn't thought about it in that particular way, but he's spot on. His corollary -- finding a tax accountant who can prospectively guide you into thinking through ideas in this tax-efficient way is also a really good one. I've spent a lot of time learning about my taxes, but this new vantage point has given me a lot of really good ideas that I'll be working on over the next few years, and that will certainly influence some restructuring of my business. (The concept of having one type of entity -- like an S corp -- being a member of another -- like an LLC -- in order to put activities and expenditures in the most helpful place was really illuminating.)

However, the continued statements that anything can be deducted if you just handle it the right way are disingenuous, and some people may try to stretch and get into completely indefensible situations based on his broad and often repeated statement. Everything is not potentially deductible. It is also a very padded book, with the author stretching to increase the word count to make it "book length".

Still it is a helpful book if the ideas are taken with a grain of salt, and it has really helped me think about taxes in a different way.

The Good, The Bad, and The ehh...

For what it's worth, the book is a good value for the money and here I'll attempt to present my honest overview of what it is, what you can expect, and what not to expect.

The book is written in plain English and attempts to explain in a straightforward way how taxes work and how as an investor you can benefit from the tax code, and what to be careful with. He does this by giving a few examples along the way that illustrate his point. To that I will add that some of his advice is overly vague filled with very general rules that the average person may find themselves scratching their heads, thinking, would that even apply to me, or, what the ____? I say this because the tax code is 10s of thousand of pages long and there is no way that a non technical book with about 250 pages is going to even scratch the surface of the behemoth that we have all come to love and embrace.

What you should not expect from this book is a silver bullet that starting next year you tax liability is going to drop by 50%. You can think of it as something like a financial crystal ball that gives you a handful of clues with little glimpses into the future but never giving you a solid answer. With the exception of a few things like cost segregation and accelerated methods of depreciation the rest of the strategies are going to require homework, research, and the help of a good accountant who is willing to work with you for a reasonable price and be knowledgeable in your industry. Remember, not all accountants are created equal and most of the states with the exception of a few have multiple levels of taxation that are not bound by federal law.

Overall the price to value ratio is pretty good regardless of your income tax IQ, even if you get nothing new of value it's an entertaining read. The shortcoming is actually part of it's strength, ease of use. But, by making the book simple, they also sacrificed substance and made a good portion of it vague with for example, he writes I believe 5 short paragraphs amounting to about 1 page on agricultural tax credits. Preceded by 1 paragraph dealing with mining and another about renewable energy which basically tell you nothing.

Finally, the "Rich Dad" Principles Are Clear

If you are a fan (or student) of the "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" series, and understand those basic principles, but may feel as if you are still missing a piece of the puzzle toward building wealth----then you must read this book. This book will fill that void.

This book ties all the Rich Dad principles together and demonstrates how and why they work to build vast wealth over a lifetime---and beyond---for generations to come. I truly understand now why the old adage of "the rich just keep getting richer" is so true: the tax code.

However, be warned that this book may seem somewhat controversial to some due to its right-wing political overtones. I can see how those from the left may get offended by what this book teaches: using the tax code to pay very little tax; or legally paying no taxes while having other people pay them for you.

This book may also be offensive to some who may experience an "Ah-ha!" moment when they realize how their own political leaders use the tax code to become very, very wealthy. Meanwhile those leaders hypocritically campaign that they are "working for the little guy" while surreptitiously robbing their own constituency though the legal use of the tax code. This reality is rife with irony.

I don't think Wheelwright had the intention for this book to be confrontational. However, the truth hurts, and this book demonstrates the truth of why "the rich" get rich----and stay rich.

Love this book!

I had actually been searching for this book forever...back in like 1997 I found it at Barnes and Noble but my parents wouldn't let me get it since it was Christmastime. Well, being young, I hid it in the travel section, so no one could buy it. My parents went back to buy it, and it wasn't there. So no book. I finally found it through Barnes and Noble but they wanted so much for it! I found it here and I couldn't be happier about it. I LOVE the styles and designs she puts in this book. Fabulous fun!

Useful for Cultivating respectful guests versus rude tourists

I have a fascination with the country, culture and people of India and it is my dream to one day go there. An Indian friend advised me that it would take "studying" to prepare myself to go. I took this to heart and began looking for resources to accomplish this task. He understood that I would not want to offend the natives while I was a guest in their country but he explained that the natives would be burdened with the fear of offending ME if I was in error. I think this book is perfect for the objective of understanding not only what customs to respect but why those customs are in place. I found this book answering so many of my questions about why there are so many differences in the customs I have observed due to the religious and geographical regions. I was influenced to select this book by another review of a native of India who recommends this book to his friends before they travel to India. That gave me the extra bit of confidence I was looking for before finalizing my decision to purchase this book. I am so pleased and delighted with this book, I am absorbing each page. It is not a book about where to stay or what to see but more a book about culture and clues to recognizing the differences in the various people groups. The author deciphers such things as how a woman ties her sari or a man is dressed revealing where someone is from and what religions are associated with. I believe this book will help me meet my objective to be a responsible traveler where I am a respectful guest versus a rude (albeit ignorant)tourist.

Very good

I was a motivated reader: I read this after I returned from a month with my new wife's family in India. The book helps me understand and deal with patterns that were hard to anticipate or accept. It is the first treatment I have ever seen, of the difficulty I have as a Mason-Dixon Line baby boomer becoming functional in the employer/servant relationship that is part of India (whether you like it or not), and the oddly (to American eyes) hierarchical behavior I have sometimes seen in the software industry. It contains a wealth of information for readers of either gender, and the longer you plan to stay in India, the more useful is the covered material. The well-spoken female author addresses details of the uniquely woman's world in India that can help me understand the forces at play in my wife's life there and in her perceptions and habits in the US. The flip side is that the author has less to offer about relationships between men, but capitalistic globalization's male domination suggests that topic will be covered in another book, "Speaking of India: Bridging the Communication Gap When Working With Indians" when I get to it.
Because of its extreme diversity, to go deeper into India would have required the author to write separate books for each region, so I thought she did an excellent job and stopped where she had to. I found Culture Shock! India compelling to the end.

Insights were spot-on, prepared me well for 1-week business trip

I purchased this book in preparation for my first-ever business trip to India. I returned just last week and am so pleased with the insights and knowledge this book provided me with prior to my visit. I don't mean to exaggerate, but there were dozens of experiences during my stay where I said to myself, "This is exactly what the book taught me!". I found myself in many unexpected situations, like in some family homes, where I was very well prepared to not make a total fool of myself, and at the same time understand many of the things that were going on. I didn't purchase any other guides, but also did not feel like I was lacking in any area after returning from the trip. Yes, the book does cater to a slightly broader audience (to include those who are staying long-term), but even for a quick business trip the information in the book was relevant, detailed, accurate, and exceptionally helpful. It doesn't take long to read so don't be tempted to skim... I was surprised how useful some of the topics were in practice.

Excellent - best travel book on Mexico. Updated my old copy, we even keep our old copies.
Mexico is a very wealthy country. I am not talking about money, but o f the many things to see in each state. how about a book on resources in each state. Silver mines, large caves in Taos, Indian ruins in a lot of states, and haciendas in every state.
Maybe something already exists, but a gringo like me would love to receive a travel book showing where all these sites can . be located. You are blessed with so much richness.

Shouldn't be classified as a book.

This story was sooo short it shouldn't be classified as a book. You get started reading and surprise, your done! The material was interesting, but even an essay would give you more historical information than this book did. A waste of money.

I think this is a good short story

I think this is a good short story. It would also make a good novel, but it is too short.
The writing is fine and I'm interested in the girl who captures the elder's memories
re sharecropping. A part of me wondered if the interviewed was the grandmother
of the interviewer which would make it wow. That's what it needs, a conflict, a
peak, etc. I think this would be a dynamite novel.

Orphan Girl told the story of what could have been a sad life, but made it almost matter of fact instead. The narrator maintained a positive outlook and appreciation of life even though she could have chosen a much different attitude toward her difficult life.
