This book is definitely a book that needs to be read by people that have lost their way. When you read it, it is kind of depressing in the beginning, but I promise, it gets better.

Hayden's parents just died in a car accident so that means her older brother gets custody of her. Hayden doesn't know why she is alive anymore and she despises the world now. What is the point of living if everything is messed up?

I don't really have a favorite part or character because this book was kind of a difficult read for me because of the subject matter. It made me sad.

BEFORE LIFE HAPPENED isn't your typical coming of age teenage romance story. It's a tough read and will have your emotions all over the map. Hayden was just involved in a tragic car accident that her parents did not survive. She is sixteen years old and has three older brothers. They get temporary custody of her and she wonders how everyone is able to move forward while she is stuck on the day of the accident.

You will get a glimpse into how Hayden is really feeling by her diary entries and your heart is going to break for her over and over again. You will find yourself praying that she can get her act together and find a way to move on and start to heal. I still can't believe BEFORE LIFE HAPPENED is a debut novel and I excited to see where this series is going to go. The characters are very real and you will be caught up in their troubles and lives in no time at all. I had a hard time putting this face paced novel down and I read it in one sitting. Isabel Curtis is going to be an author I am keeping on my radar.

"What?"

Want to read again and again!

This lengthy series is now compacted into one solid novel. We laugh, we cry, we want to shake them both by the shoulders and tell them to pull themselves together! They're in love! Can't they see it? I loved this story so much that I want to read it over and over again. Definitely set aside a chunk of time to tear into this beast. Don't worry, though, the writing is easy to read and there's lots of snappy dialogue propelling it forward!

More like 90% Dom, 10% Domme

I borrowed this with my Amazon Prime membership, and I'm glad I didn't buy it because I felt like the blurb was misleading. There was very little equality in this relationship. There will be SOME SPOILERS in my review.

Ian and Kathryn are both dominants (and of course they're both rich and beautiful), both harboring an attraction from high school. They have vanilla-ish sex a couple of times, but are aware that a relationship probably wouldn't work between them. They make a stupid, drunken bet that Ian wins (which I knew he would, the other outcome MADE ZERO SENSE). And thus starts my many disappointments with this trilogy.

I liked Kathryn at first. Strong, smart heroines are the type I like to read about. Too bad she didn't stay that way. Ian was condescending 90% of the time, and even when admits he's been jerk, it doesn't feel like he really believes it.

Of course Ian wins the bet, because if Kathryn had won, this book might have actually been interesting. Instead, it's the same old sexist crap I've read before. Ian keeps going on about how much he likes who Kathryn is, yet in the next second it's all about how much he wants to change her to fit his needs (never mind about Kathryn's needs, only Ian's are important). The second book was mostly about her training, in which Ian acts like even more of a tool, shows Kathryn less and less respect, and Kathryn becomes more and more of a doormat. Every time she'd stand up for herself, it was right back to doormat. So frustrating. I started skimming a lot, especially the sex scenes.

Kathryn finally pulls her head out of her butt and takes a break from Ian after realizing he's a selfish jerk who says he loves her but clearly doesn't respect her. She's still a domme, and she wants to turn the tables on Ian. Of course he says no (because he's a selfish jerk), but finally agrees only because he needs Kathryn's money. So it finally happens when the third book is almost over, and it's so...lame. Really lame. Again with the sexist crap. He gets to be a real dom, but she just gets to play at it a little with him. The last scene at the club made me hate Ian even more, and Kathryn too because she's back to doormat.

WOW! Really great series and ending

This is a good story about two people (Kathryn, who is a Domme, and Ian, a Dom) who are obstinate and used to getting what they want. They have known each other since they were teenagers (after the awkward and embarrassing incident that each of them never forgot), and it has been 12 years since they have seen each other face-to-face. Because of their family businesses, they are asked by their fathers to help with the proposal for the purchase of the Grand Hotel. During their working relationship, they find that their attraction to each other is intense and it escalates, but they know that there is no chance for it to work because she is a Domme and he is a Dom. After a drunken night a bet is made. Who will win the bet between the two? Because of their BDSM lifestyle, can Kathryn and Ian ignore the fact that she is a Domme and he is a Dom to pursue a relationship or to satisfy their sexual attraction?

Fight You
The second book of Dom vs. Domme series continues with the story of Kathryn and Ian, which delves deeper into their relationship. Kathryn finds that her feelings for Ian have changed and it seems as if the deeper she gets involved with Ian, she has to compromise her identity, push her boundaries, take risks, and worry about her insecurities. When their families meet at Ian father’s house, their families find out about their relationship, which they were trying to hide, after a surprise visitor is invited. To further complicate their relationship, Ian divulges that he ‘thinks he loves her’ after their love making and in return Kathryn tells him that she loves him. After the surprise visitor that was invited at Ian father’s house appears at Ian’s house the next day, will she try to blackmail both Ian and Kathryn about their lifestyles? Or after taking a picture of Kathryn, will she blackmail just Kathryn to get what she wants? This makes you wonder if they will be able to sustain their relationship—I hope so.

Save Us
Really great series! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The third and final book of Dom vs. Domme series, Save Us, continues with the story of Kathryn and Ian, who are obstinate and used to getting what they want. This book delves deeper into their relationship and shows how Ian and Kathryn’s relationship has flourished. Finally, Kathryn realizes that she does not want to give up her identity of being a Domme even after she has submitted to Ian. The realization that there are two distinct personalities (Katie that loves Ian and submits to him and Kathryn the Domme who is very confident) makes Kathryn contemplate if Ian would submit to her as well. Because one of the investors did not provide his portion of the money for the hotel, Ian and his father needs additional money ($15 MM) before they can have the grand opening to the hotel, and Ian had to relent and ask Kathryn for the money. Kathryn gives Ian an ultimatum that if he wants the money for the hotel and her as a submissive, he would have to submit to her. Since Ian is an alpha Dom, will he accept Kathryn’s ultimatum to submit to her in order to get the money for the hotel? There are a few bombshells that occurred before the end of the book that were very astonishing. Can Ian and Kathryn handle these revelations? If you enjoy reading books with hot scenes and lots of sex, then this would be a great read.

About the Author
Harris Cooper, PhD, received his doctoral degree in social psychology from the University of Connecticut in 1976. From 1977 to 2003, he served on the faculty at the University of Missouri and currently serves as professor and chair in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University.

Dr. Cooper's research interests follow two paths: The first concerns research synthesis and research methodology. His book, Research Synthesis and Meta-Analysis: A Step-by-Step Approach (2010) is in its 4th edition. He is the co-editor of the Handbook of Research Synthesis and Meta-Analysis (2nd edition, 2009).

In 2007, Dr. Cooper was the recipient of the Frederick Mosteller Award for Contributions to Research Synthesis Methodology given by the Campbell Collaboration. In 2008 he received the Ingram Olkin Award for Distinguished Lifetime Contribution to Research Synthesis from the Society for Research Synthesis Methodology.

In 2007 2008, Dr. Cooper chaired APA's committee that developed guidelines for information about research that should be included in manuscripts submitted to APA journals (American Psychologist, 2008). He recently authored the book Reporting Research in Psychology: How to Meet Journal Article Reporting Standards (2011) published by APA. He is coauthor of the Study Design and Implementation Assessment Device (DIAD), an instrument for assessing the correspondence between the design and conduct of social science research and its ability to draw inferences about causal relationships (Psychological Methods, 2008). In 2007, Dr. Cooper was appointed to membership on the National Academy of Sciences' Standing Committee on Social Science Evidence for Use: Improving the Quality and Utility of Social Science Research.

Dr. Cooper is also interested in the application of social and developmental psychology to education policy issues. In particular, he studies the relationship between time and learning. Whereas most people think of issues relating time to learning in terms of how time is spent in school (class time, instructional time, time-on task), Dr. Cooper's work zooms out from school time. He focuses on issues related to (a) the school day and school calendar (extended school days and years, summer school, year-round calendars, summer learning loss) and (b) academic-related contexts children find themselves in outside the school day (doing homework, afterschool programs, tutoring).

Dr. Cooper served as editor for the Psychological Bulletin from 2003 through mid-2009. He was Chair of the APA Council of Editors in 2006 and was a member of the APA committee that revised the APA Publication Manual (2010). Since 2009, he has served as the Chief Editorial Advisor for APA's journal publishing program. In this role he assists the editors of APA's 30+ journals as well as mediates disputes between editors and authors and between authors and authors.

This is the 4th Edition of Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology that was published a few weeks before the WHO Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues, 4th Edition. Thus, an immediate question is why do we need another book if the "bible" of hematopathology has just been published? While the WHO book spans all areas of hematopathology, including lymph node, bone marrow and soft tissues, Ioachim's book is dedicated to lymph node pathology only. However, the WHO book deals only with neoplastic hematopathology, while Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology covers both neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathology, i.e., everything a practicing pathologist or clinician may encounter in a lymph node, with the additional advantage of detailed discussions on differential diagnosis and valuable historical perspective.

The WHO book is acknowledged as the "standard" of diagnostic hematopathology and it is authored by many leaders in the field, and its approach to classification of neoplastic diseases is considered up-to-date, reflecting the current understanding of pathogenesis and mechanisms of disease, and the book is used as a reference in clinical research. A major limitation is that the book is brief, appearing almost like an abridged version, and explanations or references to the knowledge it presents may not be self explanatory, and at times can appear as dogmatic, despite the inclusion of up-to-date references. Similarly, because of space constraints (I believe), the pictures are in general diminutive, the quality although good, it is not uniform, and details are not fully appreciated.

Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology is a beautifully done, comprehensive and an authoritative text that provides valuable discussions about the context of lymph node diseases, historical perspective where is needed, such as in the chapters on angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, and histiocytic tumors, where previous versions and nomenclature are numerous, and much change has occurred in their understanding and classification in the last few years. Pictures of high quality are profuse and illustrations with detailed descriptions enhance the text. For example, I compared the number of pages and pictures dedicated to the chapter on angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma and found that the WHO book dedicated 3 pages and 12 (rather small) figures, while Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology used 13 pages and 28 (detailed) pictures. Similar to the WHO book, Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology has been extensively revised and for comparable chapters, the updated bibliographic references are essentially the same, as is the conceptual approach including the use of cutting edge technology such as gene profiling and comparative genomic hybridization. A hallmark of Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology is the comprehensive inclusion of chapters on non-neoplastic disorders, including infections, immune and metabolic processes, as well as erudite discussions on chapters dedicated to metastatic neoplasms in lymph nodes. An additional advantage is that Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology is full of valuable references and discussions of features encountered in the daily practice, not only related with histopathology, but with clinical, laboratory and other ancillary techniques currently used in clinical practice.

What I consider a significant drawback may be more a conceptual than a true deficiency. I would expect that a book of lymph node pathology would be synonymous with all lymphomas. However, several "lymphomas" are not covered, such as the extranodal lymphomas (with exception of the salivary gland), skin lymphomas (although mycosis fungoides is included), and a few others. This "deficiency" I believe is rather conceptual, since many lymphomas do not arise in lymph nodes and are mainly or purely extranodal. Another apparent, but not real deficiency, is that Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology uses as reference for certain discussions the 2001 WHO (3rd Edition) book rather than the 4th edition. However, as I mentioned, Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology goes beyond the 2001 WHO book and is updated equivalent to the WHO 4th Edition, so that the knowledge is essentially the same in both books. I found the index excessive and somewhat disorganized, with some entries redundant; for example breast carcinoma is under entries such as axillary lymph node, metastasis, adenocarcinoma, carcinoma, ductal, mucinous carcinoma, and metastatic breast carcinoma, metastatic breast lobular carcinoma. Other entries are not relevant; for example, "cervical" and "axillary lymph nodes" have many entries, and "collagen fibers" links to a collagen deposition in a case of sarcoidosis (page 205, Fig 38.7).

In summary, the book authored by Harry L. Ioachim and L. Jeffrey Medeiros covers the entire spectrum of neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathology that can be found affecting lymph nodes. The book is fully updated and enhanced by systematic discussions on differential diagnosis and prolific, high quality illustrations for each chapter. I believe that Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology, 4th Edition is truly a classic of lymph node pathology, and has a value equal, but complimentary to the 2008 WHO book. I highly recommend Ioachim's Lymph Node Pathology to practicing pathologists, hematopathologists, pathologists-in-training, clinicians, oncologists and scientists.

Online resource hobbled ...

This hard cover text book is an excellent resource for the practicing pathologist. The online text was great until January, 2011, when Lippincott took down what was an excellent, fast and efficient, online resource and replaced it with a miserably restricted version, which seems like a limited version of Amazon's "Click to Look Inside" function. The online reference text now displays just page by page. It can no longer be scrolled or printed. It can be searched, but its rudimentary search function merely returns a list (10 entries at a time) of every page on which the word appears, along with a 5-6 word sentence fragment for context (no chapter or section title). From that minimal information, I cannot figure out which is the pertinent entry for my query. It's faster for me to get up, get the printed text book off the library shelf, and look it up there.

A must have Hematology book

One of the best books ever published, a most-read or/and must-have book for pathologists, fellows and residents. Comparatively with the last edition, it has colored pictures and information regarding the newly cytogenetics and molecular findings.
