Book's not bad, great story telling but sort of amateurish. End of the book focuses on his personally agenda with advancing sport in India which isn't as interesting as his first hand account of his life story.

A powerful story written quite simply

The legend, Milkha Singh, writes his story in the most simplistic fashion. It's an easy read and an inspirational narrative. He portrays the importance of setting realistic but ambitious goals at different stages of his life and directs all his focus on achieving these goals one-by-one. There are instances where I felt he was being hypocritical, but on reading further, understood his reasons behind those actions. Overall, India needs more people like him to change the face of it's dismal sports record as it stands today.

The book is very inspiring and filled with lot of true facts of what is happening in the Indian sport. The approach towards sport he had is very much required in other areas too if India wants to be one of the leading nations in the world. Before it becomes too late, India needs to plan developing the talent in every area right from the very early age. The talent not only needs to be recognised but systems need to be set up to groom the same.

There's a much better version

Based on the text sample, this appears to be a reprint of '101 Zen Stories'.
These really are not Koans as such, but are better thought of as a nice
philosophical "warm up" for dealing with actual koans, or "public cases".

'101 Zen Stories' has previously been included in "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones",
which is a much better presentation in my opinion because it also includes
the Mumonkan, 48 "real" koans, and the 10 oxherding pictures, which are
like a short "picture-book" of the process of enlightenment.

However, "Zen Flesh, Zen Bones" doesn't appear to have a Kindle version yet,
so that would be the only reason for buying this version.

Good materials for pondering

I studied Zen in college, and I've always thought it interestingly compatible with Christian ideas, but outside of the sound of one hand clapping, I haven't had the chance to ponder many Koans. Problem solved. To boot, these aren't riddles so much as windows, both into the mindset of Zen, and into ancient (and modern) Asian culture.

This book although not a complete compendium of Zen Koans definitely is a good read. The stories, both familiar and new are great to read and reflect upon. With each reading new insights can be found as one's life and moods change. Definitely handy for that early morning read to supplement checking one's horoscope. Reading a koan or two can set the stage for a great day.

Wonderfully Insightful

I think that the spinor formalism is very important and will be central to important advances in the physics of the future. Certainly Penrose and Rindler's book is very good and beyond criticism by someone like me. However often I see the spinor formalism explained, I find it unsatisfactory. I end up wondering what it all really means, why it is as it is. Without a satisfactory intuition about the formalism, it is not possible for me to get decent results in my own research. It is the difference between reading the formal definition of a word in a dictionary and having an easy familiarity with its use in conversation. It is a small, but very important, difference. This book is not the standard presentation, and I suppose there may be some formalists in the audience who might not like it so much. For me, it gives very good and satisfactory explanations not just of the formalism but of its deeper meaning. It helps to form an intuition that would otherwise be achieved only after a very long time and with some frustration. This is a kinder and gentler way to get the question answered, "What does it really mean? What is it really all about?" Moving beyond the spinor formalism, the author discusses its substantial relation to quantum mechanics. While his conclusions may not gain universal acceptance immediately, it is a very, very useful step in getting more understanding of the quantum theory. It is a great testimony to the French system. It has the vigor and insight to support this kind of work. The French are great in mathematics at every generation. It is a testimony to the Imperial College Press that they would publish an unusual but insightful book. The author has, indeed, made this subject as simple as possible without over-simplification. I just love this book.
