About the Author
Dennis Glover is a professional speechwriter for some of Australia's most prominent political and business leaders and an academic historian of oratory. He is a graduate of Monash University and he took a PhD in History at Cambridge University. He has worked on the staff of three federal Labor Party leaders and written speeches for two prime ministers.

Rhetorical techniques for modern speakers

This book is contains excerpts from 70 of the world's great speeches. The author analyzes these speeches and shows how they all employ certain classical rhetorical techniques to improve their effectiveness.
Study this book and you will better appreciate the great oratory of the past and present. More than that, you will learn how you can write more effective, exciting and memorable speeches yourself.

Scholarly, gem of a book

For anyone who has to go beyond a once every 10 years "unaccustomed as I am to public speaking..." moment, this book will explain a great many mysteries about what makes amazing oratory. Drawing on a couple of thousand years of examples, the patterns and methods are illustrated clearly. There is an element of theatre, but the greatest speeches share a logic and approach to their story-telling that might prove just as applicable to your monthly project update for a steering committee as rousing the troops for battle. Think 'Alain de Botton on speech-making' as a quick summary.
